Antiskeptic - Beautiful In White

You’d be forgiven for wondering where Antiskeptic have disappeared to in recent years. It’s been a quiet time for the Melbourne three-piece — publicly, at least. In private, the band has undergone a rebirth that now sees them poised to return, bigger, better and more energised than ever before.
Let’s rewind for a moment — to 2003, and the release of the band’s second LP, Aurora. The album was an instant success, capitalising on Antiskeptic’s years of touring and boasting a heavier rock edge that set venues alight. Both singles found favour with radio programmers and dominated jjj’s Net 50, while successful tours featured hot young support bands like Gyroscope, Kisschasy and After The Fall.
Shortly before the recording of Aurora, bassist Sean Daly left the group to pursue other interests. Remaining members Andrew Kitchen and Nick Coppin soldiered on through the recording and promotion of Aurora, enlisting fill-in members to help them perform live, but by the end of 2003 they were feeling the strain. Sean’s departure limited what the band could achieve, and despite the success of Aurora, Andrew and Nick knew something was missing. The chemistry between all three members was what made the Antiskeptic sound so powerful, and without Sean, they knew they couldn’t reach the next level.
After some time spent soul-searching, Sean returned to the group, immediately reenergizing Antiskeptic’s sound. Happy to be a three-piece again, the group decided to record a new EP. The resulting tracks are the band’s most collaborative to date — emerging spontaneously from rehearsal sessions, rather than from individual members, as they had in the past.
The Monuments EP boasts some of the most focussed songs Antiskeptic have committed to tape. Lead track “Dancing on the Inside” explodes with a serrated, riff-heavy intro, before Kitchen’s vocals take off, leading to one of the most infectious choruses you will hear this year. The band has cemented the heavy edge they first explored on Aurora, emerging with a sound that would put many of this country’s hard rock acts to shame. Above it all, their trademark melodic style dips and soars, imbuing the songs with an optimism so often missing from alternative rock.
Also bundled with the EP is a DVD featuring ‘in-studio’ video clips of all four songs, commentary from the band, and a live performance from Melbourne’s Rod Laver arena in 2005.
With new material and a newfound cohesion, Antiskeptic are set to wow Australian punters once again. After seven years playing music together, and their fair share of ups and downs, the band has never felt more alive.

MxPx - Slowly Going The Way Of The Buffalo

MxPx made the leap to the major leagues in 1998 with Slowly Going the Way of the Buffalo, their first album for A&M Records. The switch to the majors really doesn't make a difference, to tell the truth -- the group turns out another set of speedy, raucous punk-pop numbers that are fueled as much by attitude as songwriting. There's plenty of filler, but the record moves so quickly, it doesn't hurt the album, especially since the good songs do work their hooks into your brain. Listeners who don't care for late-'90s retro-punk won't have their minds changed by Slowly Going the Way of the Buffalo, but anyone who's followed MxPx or has a fondness for post-Green Day indie punk-pop will enjoy the record. ~ Stephen Thomas Erlewine, All Music Guide

WAR OF AGES "Pride Of The Wicked

Formed in 2003 by five friends who wanted to get together to play uber-heavy music with a message, the boys in War Of Ages burst out of the Erie, PA hardcore scene amongst likeminded bands like xDisciplex AD, Shockwave, and Brother’s Keeper and left their mark across the United States. Vocalist Leroy Hamp said, “Although Erie has been nicknamed ‘the dead city’, it’s one of my favorite places in the world. I love the city and the music scene here is incredibly strong and like a second family to me. I wouldn’t trade it for the world.”
War Of Ages released their first cd in July of 2005, which is self-titled and released on StrikeFirst Records (a subsidiary of Facedown Records), to an enthusiastic crowd and unsuspecting press. War Of Ages garnered many a positive review, including Under The Volcano, who said: “ This self-titled debut fuses bottom heavy hardcore rage with explosive metal pyrotechnics perfectly; this is one of the best cd’s I have heard this year.”
To support their debut album, War Of Ages kicked off an almost unprecedented do-it-yourself touring schedule. In 2005 alone, the band played shows alongside As I Lay Dying, Bury Your Dead, and Throwdown and didn’t let up, playing over 250 shows in the same year. Hamp explained, “It’s definitely easy to get burnt out on touring, but that’s the main way we helped our band grow. We feel extremely fortunate for the experiences we’ve had.”
Lyrically, War Of Ages typically likes to keep things positive. Leroy Hamp writes his lyrics based on feeling and puts them into a poetic format. Pride Of The Wicked touches on positivity from the last album, but also expands on that to discuss issues of the heart and the negative side of pride. Hamp said, “The goal of this band is to reach people on a personal level. We want to show everyone that there’s light in a world covered in darkness, to have fun doing what you want to do. We like to set goals for ourselves and continue to set the bar higher and strive for bigger and better things, but never lose sight of what brought us all here in the first place.”
After such an amazing display of dedication and work ethic, War Of Ages was quickly moved up into the reigns of Facedown Records and the band entered the studio to record their second full-length album in June of 2006. Pride Of The Wicked was recorded at the legendary Trax East Studio in New Jersey with Eric Rachel (Atreyu, Hatebreed, Dillinger Escape Plan) and his expertise helped the band fully capture their sound. War Of Ages’ influences shine through on this record, ranging anywhere from In Flames to Children Of Bodom to 80’s epic rock bands, creating one of 2006’s metal masterpieces and helping to redefine the term “crossover album”. Hitting stores on September 5th, 2006, Pride Of The Wicked is jam packed with what will become the anthems of today’s heavy music fans. Be sure to catch War Of Ages on tour all year long!

Kekal - 1000 Violent Thoughts

After 10 years of existence as a band, KEKAL decided to move forward and to come deep into musical territories yet unexplored by the band. Kekal's new direction can be described as a unique form of "experimental heavy rock" with a liberal use of electronic elements to accompany their trademark guitar-driven soundscapes. The new direction fully described on their ambitious sixth album "The Habit of Fire", an over 70-minute epic avant-garde concept album which will be released in 2007.
Kekal has matured themselves throughout the last decade and they already released 5 full-length albums within the extreme metal realm, but now they have been moving far beyond their metal roots, only to find freedom to explore a lot more musical possibilities.
Kekal formed back in August 1995 by 2 raging teenagers. Their first official demo "Contra spiritualia Nequitiae" released in 1996 and got a good response from the underground as it contains totally extreme and unique musical structures that have become influential.
Some changes and addition in line-up appeared. With Harry on Vocals, Leo on Guitar, Jeff on Guitar/Vocals, and Azhar Levi on Bass/Vocals, Kekal continued to write new material. Early in 1998, the first full-length album entitled "Beyond The Glimpse of Dreams" was recorded and licensed to various indie labels. "Beyond The Glimpse of Dreams" has got very good reviews from publications around the world and being considered as one of the best extreme metal albums ever coming from Asian bands. The response has also been very good since it has been sold for over 5000 copies without an aid of any major distribution.
At the end of 1998 Harry left the band due to other commitments outside music. Kekal remains as a three-piece band with Jeff and Azhar handle all the vocal duties. Their 2nd full-length album called "Embrace The Dead" was finally recorded and without a doubt shows every extreme metal lover once again, about the strength and uniqueness of Kekal's music. Early 2001 Kekal entered the studio to record songs for next full-length project entitled "The Painful Experience" with better production. This album is released on CD format by 4 independent labels in USA, Western Europe, Eastern Europe and South East Asia. Musically, Kekal is in the continual process of shaping and progressing, without abandoning the band's trademark style.
September 2002 they started to write and record songs for their 4th album "1000 Thoughts of Violence". The album they wanted to break any tradition in heavy metal and move away from any stereotype and cliché. By this album, they wanted to make a statement that KEKAL has something more to offer than just being an extreme metal band. Being "progressive" and "avant-garde" has become necessary, an ideal yet to be achieved. Finally, after all those years, they were able to get a good recording environment to catch their own ideal. Released in 2003, "1000 Thoughts of Violence" got many great reviews from metal media around the world, and started to cite Kekal among the world's best "avant-garde metal" bands.
In March 2004, Kekal did their first mini European Tour and played some shows in Holland, Germany, and Sweden, sponsored by their record label Fear Dark. This makes Kekal as the first independent band from Indonesia who played shows outside Asian territory.
Earlier in 2005, Kekal released a full-length album called "Acidity", the band's 5th full-length album which shows their maturity in songwriting, technical skills and artistic madness. 'Acidity" then marked as the final album from Kekal in the extreme heavy-metal territory, and they continue to work on music beyond the limits of musical genres.
Kekal is an example of hard-working independent band which dedicated itself to the music beyond the limits of industry.

Leeland

Sound of Melodies is the debut record from Leeland, a brand-new Essential Records progressive rock band that's instantly capturing the imagination and hearts of all who hear it. In a short time, Leeland has managed to create a buzz like none other-from MySpace to PureVolume and across the music industry.
"Leeland is the best thing I have heard in a long, long time," says Grammy Award-winning artist Michael W. Smith. "I can't stop singing the songs in my head. Great melodies. Great band. Great voice." Produced by Matt Bronleewe, Marc Byrd and Steve Hindalong, the 11-track project is no doubt poised to be one of the year's biggest and best debuts.
Fronting the enthusiastic five-piece Texas outfit is the gifted 18-year-old songwriter and charismatic performer Leeland Mooring. The youngest group member, this unassuming, fresh-faced vocalist and guitar player writes with wisdom beyond his years. He's transparent in his love and gratitude to God and unflinching in his passion for reaching his generation for Christ.
"So many kids are lost when it comes to having a true relationship with God, even ones who go to church," Leeland says. "Whenever we play, our main goal is to be able to minister to our generation."
The debut album from Leeland erects a doorway to God's welcoming presence. Musically, the album contains layer upon layer of emotional, majestic melodies constructed on rock influences, European groups such as: Travis, Coldplay, Delirious, Doves, and Godfrey Birtill, among others. Lyrically, Sound of Melodies tips the scales at being vertically oriented, yet operates at the ground level of human relationships.
Acclaim is building quickly for Sound of Melodies, crediting a slew of vertical, God-centered lyrics and a barrage of and guitar- and piano-driven tracks. According to RELEVANT Magazine, "If Leeland's live show is any indication of the band's promise, we'd better brace for big things."
"What people hear on the record is five young guys that have hearts to glorify
